Confessions of a New Spectator:-

I am pretty sure most of the indian bloggers have a post about India's performance in Cricket World Cup 2003, and one has read about it over and over again. However i feel it deserves a post on Akashvani, and so here goes...
i was never really very interested in cricket, if you are an indian you probably know that i am a rarity...however i am an indian all the same and and cannot help but be a part of all the enthusiasm that the indians show on the arrival of the World Cup. Likewise this time also we were realy looking forward to it... the only obstacle was that being on campus we would not be able watch the live telecast of the matches, it was sorted out when a senior (NTU grad) invited us to watch the mathces at his residence.. and so about two weeks before India's first match started talks about which temas our tigers could take on easily and where we would have to struggle... we speculated that Holland would be an easy victory and we could also take on Namibia pretty easily, and so we waited expectently for India Vs Holland, not know what was to follow. The first match as we all know was just short of a disaster... now i knwo my opinion is would be biased and so i find it hareder to admit that Holland played well(not that they didn't ) and much easier to to judge india's performance as a poor one.
And so we returned to the campus analysing india;s performance and what coudl be done to improve it. The unanamous decision was, that we had a bad bad batting lineup and a better lineup would have resulted in a much better performance...
Anyways so we finally came out the shock caused by the first match and got started talkgin about India Vs Australia, now any cricket follower woudl normally know that there was actually nothing to discuss taking into account Australias team and India's pathetic victory... however one who has been foloowing indian performance on cricket would know that its not uncommeon for them to deliver in the toughest of situations while faling at it in the simplest of ones. And so we trying to keep an optimistic view we went to see the match... but all in vain, india's performance touched a new low in India Vs Australia, with australia defeating india by 9 wickets. Ofcourse as expected indian response to this has been outrageous, with sms campaings to boycott all products endorsed by the players and wide scale protests... personally i am against all the rowdiness.. however i do feel that the cricketers are the only one to blame for their performance and are directly answerable to the public. Moreover Zimbabwe has come up with all new plans to give India a tough time... and its not something unexpected, i am prety sure all other teams must be eyeing their chances against the Indians. Well for the time being all we can do is hope that the new batting lineup works for us and we are able to make it to the Super Six...
